Learner Welcome Guide
Welcome to Praxis Dramatic Arts Academy!
We're delighted to welcome you to our Academy.

At Praxis, you'll build confidence, strengthen your communication skills, and develop as a performer through practical, structured drama training. Each lesson is designed to support your growth, helping you progress at your own pace in a positive and focused environment.

Whether you're stepping into a drama class for the very first time or already have performance experience, we're excited to be part of your creative journey.
Getting Ready or Class
What to Wear

We recommend wearing comfortable black clothing that allows you to move freely during class. While wearing black is not compulsory, it is strongly encouraged, as it offers several benefits for your training and prepares you for future performance opportunities.
Why do we recommend black?
-
It prepares you for examinations, festivals, and performance opportunities. Many dramatic arts examinations, competitions, and eisteddfods require or strongly recommend black performance attire. Becoming accustomed to working in black from the beginning helps learners feel more confident and prepared when these opportunities arise.
-
It reflects professional industry standards. Black rehearsal wear is widely used in drama, dance, and theatre training because it promotes focus, discipline, and professionalism.
-
It creates a sense of unity within the class. When learners dress similarly, the emphasis shifts away from fashion and onto learning, creativity, and teamwork.
-
It helps instructors observe movement more effectively. Simple, dark clothing allows teachers to see posture, alignment, facial expression, and physical choices more clearly, enabling more accurate feedback and guidance.
Please avoid clothing that restricts movement or may distract from practical activities.
What to Bring

✓ A sealable water bottle (for safety and to protect studio floors)
✓ Any required scripts, notes, or stationery
✓ Focus, energy, and a willingness to learn
Arriving At Class
Please arrive a few minutes before class begins (ideally 5 minutes early).
Arriving early allows you time to settle in, prepare for the lesson, and be ready to begin when class starts. Punctuality helps create a focused learning environment and ensures that classes can start on time and run smoothly for everyone.

Shoes Off

Please remove your shoes before entering the studio.
Working barefoot is an important part of dramatic arts training and helps us to:
-
prepare learners for examinations, festivals, and performance environments where performers often work barefoot;
-
develop greater awareness of posture, balance, and movement; and
-
protect and maintain our studio floors and performance spaces.
Removing shoes also helps create a dedicated performance space, allowing learners to transition into a focused and professional training environment.
Learning at Praxis
At Praxis, skills are developed over time through regular practice and participation. Consistent attendance helps learners build confidence, strengthen their abilities, and gain the greatest benefit from their training.

We ask every learner to:

✓ Listen when others are speaking.
✓ Follow your instructor's guidance.
✓ Participate to the best of your ability.
✓ Respect your classmates.
✓ Encourage and support others.
✓ Look after the studio and equipment.
✓ Be open to learning and trying new things.

To help everyone enjoy a safe and focused learning environment, please remember:

• No mobile phones during class.
• No food in the studio.
• No photography or video recording.
• No bullying or disrespectful behaviour.
• Use appropriate language at all times.

At Praxis, learning happens through practice, repetition, constructive feedback, and consistent effort. Our goal is not perfection, but continual growth and improvement.
Performance Opportunities
Throughout the year, learners may have the opportunity to participate in a variety of performance and assessment experiences, including:

• Internal performance assessments
• Showcase performances
• External examinations
• Eisteddfods and festivals
• Other developmental performance opportunities

These experiences give learners the chance to apply the skills developed in class, build confidence, and gain valuable stage experience. They also provide meaningful opportunities for personal growth, goal setting, and artistic development.
Participation in external events is always optional. However, learners are encouraged to take part when they feel ready, as performance experience is an important and rewarding part of dramatic arts training.

Ready to Begin?
Every performer starts somewhere.
At Praxis, confidence is not something you are expected to arrive with—it's something that develops through learning, practice, and experience. As skills grow, so does confidence.
That's why our motto is:
Confidence through Competence
Bring your curiosity.
Bring your enthusiasm.
Bring a willingness to learn.
We'll guide and support you every step of the way.
Welcome to Praxis Dramatic Arts Academy. We look forward to seeing you in class!
